The Simplest Service Can Make Someone's Day!

We may be halfway through Fall Semester, but our little chapter’s APO Spark is still going strong! AEB Secretary Lauren Nye has come up with an excellent promotional event called Project #SASS. The acronym stands for Small Acts of Simple Service, which can be completed by anyone who wants to get involved. All the participants would need to know beforehand is how to use Facebook or other forms of social media, how to upload photos and how to put hashtags on their posts. We are currently reaching out to other groups on campus with this idea and anticipate a big, positive response!

Here is the idea of how our social media campaign will work: from October 23rd to November 20th, members of multicultural, professional, Greek, and other organizations will post photos of themselves doing good deeds on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with the hashtags #APO and #SASS. These good deeds can include straightening up a student lounge, picking up litter off the streets of Ada (or any student’s hometown), raking a neighbor’s leaves, or shoveling out someone’s car if winter decides to come early this year. Random acts of kindness are highly encouraged as well! Thoughtful suggestions include leaving a tip for the janitors who clean up our facilities or assisting another organization in setup and teardown of fundraisers.
Perhaps a professor will be out of town for a while and needs someone to watch the kids or pets. Do not hesitate to volunteer your time if you are able! These kinds of acts are what establish respectable connections and long-lasting friendships people never know they need. You might be surprised at how much service is just waiting to happen on Ohio Northern’s campus!
As the SASS acronym suggests, a person does not need to do something big and “noteworthy” to make a difference. Even a small act of service can brighten someone’s day! At the end of the campaign, the members of Alpha Epsilon Beta’s Public Relations committee will pick our top three “sass”iest pictures! These will come from multiple organizations, and the top three will each win a grand prize! Here is what we will grant to the winners: AEB will promote the events and meetings for the organizations for the rest of the year! We will also volunteer brothers and pledges to assist with setup, tear-down, and running the mentioned events. In essence, we will dedicate our services to the winning organizations and encourage the students of Ohio Northern to become involved in these worthwhile groups.
We want to provide an incentive for our communities back home and on campus with our social media campaign. What #SASS will show students, staff and faculty is the importance of service in everyday activities. Being enthusiastic about the smallest of events can spark a passion for giving in others and make them feel more excited about serving their communities. As winter draws closer and the Ada wind gets colder, we will be warming hearts!
Stay tuned for more events and stay golden, everyone!
