The brothers of Alpha Epsilon Beta’s chapter of ONU have many wonderful plans for the coming semester! Part One of our Fall 2015 Rush Week was a success, for 17 potential new members (PNMs) attended our Info Night! We greatly encourage our brothers and PNMs to participate in service projects as part of rush, including the Consent for Tea project held this past week. This exercise encourages education about consent and respecting personal boundaries. Since not everyone wants a cup of tea, for example, they should not feel obligated or pressured to drink it.
This past Saturday, brothers of APhiO volunteered their time and enthusiasm for two wonderful causes. Heart Chase, sponsored by St. Rita’s Medical Center, took place in Lima and was a great success. Teams of families, friends and coworkers of individuals with heart disease dressed up as characters like Princess Leia and the Ghostbusters (called Clot Busters), and competed in various events to raise money for research, patient care services and other initiatives regarding Heart Health! The administrators at St. Rita’s would love to establish a greater relationship with our Chapter, and we may soon sponsor St Rita’s events on ONU’s campus!
Other brothers visited the Samaritan House in Lima that same day, and plenty of cleaning was accomplished! Ideas for potential workshops with the residents, as well as partnership with Habitat for Humanity to mend a variety of utilities were discussed. Christmas is an especially important season in the House, and APhiO brothers are ecstatic to provide services to this caring community.
On Sunday, a few brothers will volunteer at the Humane Society of Allen County. We have been invited to come each weekend and clean cages, walk dogs and play with the lovely cats who call the shelter home. PNMs, brothers and the animals will all greatly benefit from this service!
Stay tuned for bid acceptance, and have a great week!
