Relay For Life

This past Friday, Ohio Northern University hosted their annual Relay for Life event in King Horn Gymnasium from sundown (approximately 6:00 PM) until sunrise (a bright and early 6:00 AM). Brothers of the Alpha Epsilon Beta chapter of APhiO and Ohio Northern’s Fencing Club showed their support for the cure throughout the night by running a whimsical Hawaiian-style photo booth and wearing the bright, home-made Experiments T-Shirts made during Sunday’s Fellowship event. The main attraction for the photo booth was, of course, a pineapple that did not leave Chapter President Patrick Sullivan’s side. Anyone who snapped a pineapple picture absolutely had to have Spanish Pat in it as well!

Plenty of amazing events took place after hours, including an on-campus Improv Show, the traditional Luminaria in which all cancer victims are commemorated, a date auction and Relay Idol. At that last event, the brothers of APhiO and F.C. members did an astounding rendition of the song “Be a Man” from Mulan, a favorite movie of many a Disney fan. After the standing ovations and Simon-Cowell impersonators’ outrageous comments, we were ready to Zumba until the sun rose. Those who were too exhausted to dance rode around the track in a large wooden cart and pretended to be chariot racers. To be fair, Zumba at 4:00 AM looks less like a Latin dance party and more like a flash mob dancing to Thriller, which is still pretty awesome.

By the time morning rolled around, the brothers of AEB started throwing leis at people in a ring-toss fashion. Watching exhausted people throw leis at equally tired individuals while having stayed up all night is much more humorous than if everyone had gotten any amount of sleep. The grilled cheese bar and baked goods from other organizations really made the event a party that we will all remember!
